If you haven’t met Helen Dowsley personally, you would have definitely seen her work in Australian media.
Working on such productions as Celebrity Apprentice, The X Factor, The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, just to name a few, and with a star studded client list that contains the likes of Kylie Minogue, Rihanna, Lady Sarah Ferguson, Lily Allen and Geri Halliwell, Helen has a wealth of knowledge gained from a lifetime long career working in the beauty and media industries.
Outside of being an absurdly talented hair and makeup artist, Helen also owns and operates her own lash company (real life #girlboss!). Helen’s business upholds her moral values, her products are ethically sourced and she assures her lashes are made in a clean workplace with comfortable working hours, so that employees can have valuable time with their families. Helen personally handpicked the factory that her lashes are made in, which is a quaint family owned establishment, headed up by a woman in a very male dominated industry. “I made sure the work environment is somewhere that I would want to work in” she says.

Lastly, Helen is one of the humblest and beautiful souls I have ever encountered, I was fortunate enough to steal some of this seasoned industry veteran’s time recently to find out what is happening in her world, how she gets her makeup to stay on her celebrity clients and what is next on the horizon for her.
SN: You did Sophie Monk’s makeup a lot on Celebrity Apprentice, what did you find was your hero product (aside from caffeine!) to get the look to last though those long days?
HD: Iridis primer is my new "go to" product especially in the hotter months. It smooths the skin, helps bond the foundation to the skin brilliantly and no need for touch ups. It is bloody magic! Oh and also Aussie brand!

SN: After working on shows like The Bachelor and having to go from a day time look, to a night time look very quickly, what did you find was the best way to quickly glam up the girls?
HD: My lashes! By applying my Favourites or Flutter they give that extra glam look.
SN: Why did you get into lashes? What was the driving factor behind you starting you own line?
HD: I couldn’t understand why there was so much price difference, plus I was always cutting and pasting lashes to make what I wanted for the client. A good lash says so much.
SN: That is awesome that you have the flexibility to design industry relevant styles! Have you got any new styles cooking in your pot?
HD: I’m working a lot with the gorgeous Sophie Monk. I wanted to make a specific lash for her and I am so excited as the samples have just arrived!! Soph is in love with them and that makes me so proud to have such a professional love my lashes. Also, I have another lash coming out shortly that I designed for Kelly Osborne! These lashes will be available in April.

SN: Talking lash trends, what do you anticipate to come in with Autumn around the corner? Can you give away any of your industry secrets?
HD: I am definitely a Summer girl as I grew up on Bondi Beach but I have got to say, I am excited about the change in seasons. Autumn brings out the golds, browns, chocolates on our eyes and we love to smoke them up, maybe not as much depth as winter, but a smokey inner lash-line is perfect for this season.
Stack my lashes to make that statement, Fablash is my great statement lash. So thicken the lash line with my Beautifuls or New love then stack Fablash over the top. This will give the lashes the bulk thickness with the first lash and the Fablash individualise the look.
The lashes mentioned above have the highest point in the middle of the eye, this gives a more rounded, open eye. If you are wanting more of an almond look then place my Favourites on first then Fablash over the top. It is all about stacking the lash.

SN: You always have exciting things happening! What is next on the horizon for you?
HD: Well I haven’t really had a break, 2016 just rolled on through with me either shooting stills with celebrities or being onset. I am crewing now for two big shows that will be on our TV screens later in the year and I am super excited to be a sponsor at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in March again this year. If I’m lucky ill be doing some international travelling and all in all living my life, trying to make the best of it.
